26 Lessons for Rémy & Kitt

A 2021 personal project I decided to devote all letters to the values and lessons I want to instil in my little daughters, Rémy & Kitt

The girls will grow up in a new era of women, and the lessons here, I hope will be a part of their fabric - not something they have to learn from the news and terrible happenings in the world.

I created a series of empowering, strong and unique images, each representing a letter of the alphabet. The style evolved ever so slightly, but all the posters sat within the same series.

Read on for a select few of the posters and the lessons.

L is for Love

L is for Love

You’ll know this from day one, but as you grow it becomes a conflicting lesson at times. Just know that it’s pursuit is a noble goal, (as long as you’re not in danger). Your heart will break a million times but love is the glue that puts it back together.

Find it everywhere. In friends, in family, in animals, in your passions and in your partners.

All told, loves smallest day triumphs heartbreaks biggest.

A is for Acceptance

A is for Acceptance

Understanding that everyone is different but we are all human, have the same needs and dreams. Each person, no matter their race or orientation or style or heritage deserves to be accepted by every other. .

K is for Kindness

K is for Kindness

Kindness is this little thing we have which can affect a big change in someone’s day. Just being a tiny bit thoughtful and being kind and understanding to someone is really powerful.

Take time everyday to do something kind. For someone you love, for a stranger, for an animal or the world - a tiny act can make a big change.

C is for Creativity

C is for Creativity

Without which one wouldn’t be unique. Creative comes in all forms and sizes, it allows one to express herself and open her mind and imagination. Creativity is built in to you, little Rémy - and we have fun plans on the road ahead to help it shine.

I is for independence

I is for independence

A lot of people will tell you it takes a while to figure out who you are, but you’re the real you every second of every day. You’ll change, go astray, conform, rebel and each thing will make the real you a bit more independent. Don’t let anyone make you feel you’re not unique and one of a kind. We all are, and the sooner we understand and embrace that, the better off we’ll be. (See A - acceptance and U - Understanding)

J is for Joy & Joyfulness

J is for Joy & Joyfulness

A huge part of the pleasure of life is happiness and joy in the little, every day things and moments that make up the bulk of our existence. As a baby and child, you do this instinctively, giggling and beaming at everything the world has to offer.

Once you're grown, you have to work to find that joy in the every day, but if you can, it makes your every day spectacular. Find joy and be a joyful person, it makes even the toughest days worth living and you'll be a beacon for those around you.

D is for Determination

D is for Determination

The ability to trust in yourself to keep going and see things through, make them work, and grit your teeth to get it done is a tough one to learn, but with time and patience, determination settles in and won’t ever leave. You can trust it, lean on it. .

B is for Bravery

B is for Bravery

A brave woman isn’t afraid to be her true and best self. Bravery is the strength to step forward when no one else will. To face your fears, no matter how small or silly - to trust in yourself enough to take those steps regardless of what might happen.

Be brave, little girls - for yourself and for those who haven’t found their strength just yet.

E is for education

E is for education

Not so much the standard French military boarding school you’ll be attending from age 4, but more the importance of self learning.

Educating yourself in things that matter, your interests, loves and the world around you is a noble and lifelong endeavour.

I hope you love learning new things as much as I do.

G is for Graciousness

G is for Graciousness

No matter the situation, always be gracious. In your wins and loses, the I told you so moments, the times when you’re proven wrong, embarrassed and especially when you’re right.

A gracious person is always someone others love to be around.
